LAWRENCEVILLE - Police have called off the search for a schizophrenic man who wandered off from his home Saturday morning.
Authorities believe 48-year-old Wesley T. McMurry left his home in the 200 block of Lester Road sometime between midnight and 8 a.m., leaving behind the medication he takes for his mental illness. Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said no "formal searches" are currently underway after authorities combed the area near the residence earlier in the week. At this point, police do not suspect foul play. McMurry's mother, Virginia, who also lives at the residence, said she doesn't believe anything "suspicious" occurred, but is worried her son might have gotten himself lost or injured. Spellman said Wednesday there are no updates to the case. Virginia McMurry said her son is known to leave the residence but never stays away for extended periods of time. She also said he has no friends and that no other family members said they had heard from him. Police said McMurry's information has been sent to state and national crime databases. McMurry is described as a white man with brown hair and brown eyes. He is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds. McMurry was last seen wearing gray sneakers and a knit hat, carrying a Sony music player and a book, possibly a Bible. Police urge anyone who may know McMurry's whereabouts to call 911 immediately.More like this story
