Berkmar's Jones signs with Union College football

Berkmar senior Daryl Jones signed a letter of intent Tuesday with the Union College (Ky.) football program.

Jones, a 6-foot-4, 230-pounder, was a key member of the Patriots' offensive line as a senior.

Marelle gets national honor

Longtime Duluth basketball coach Joe Marelle received one of the Guardians of the Game Merit Awards from the National Association of Basketball Coaches this past weekend. Marelle, who survived cancer to return to coaching, was nominated by a former player who was aided throughout life by Marelle.

GAC's Freeman named state's best

Greater Atlanta Christian junior Will Freeman was named the Class AAAA/AAA/AA/A boys swimmer of the year by the Georgia High School Swim Coaches Association. Freeman won the state title in the 500 freestyle with a state and national private school record time and placed second in the 200 free at the state high school meet.

Williams qualifies for Pan-Am Games

Caleb Williams of Duluth qualified for this year's Pan-American Games with his effort last weekend in a San Francisco qualifier. In the 69-kilogram class, Williams lifted 121 kilograms (snatch) and 155 kilograms (clean and jerk) for an overall fourth-place finish in all weight classes.

'Prep Rally' features Parkview's Pascutti

"Gwinnett Prep Rally," a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs highlights from the Northview-Collins Hill girls and boys soccer games, and the Chattahoochee-North Gwinnett girls and boys soccer games on this week's show.

Featured athletes include Parkview's Kristin Pascutti along with Collins Hill's Malcolm Miller and Andrew Wallingford, and North's Lauren Harriman.

"Gwinnett Prep Rally," hosted by Daily Post editor Todd Cline and sports editor Will Hammock, airs Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV and each Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 a.m., 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV.

Superbikes come to Road Atlanta

The Suzuki Superbike Showdown, an AMA Pro Racing event for motorcycles, will held Friday through Sunday at Road Atlanta in Braselton. The two feature events will be Saturday and Sunday, along with practice and qualifying on Friday.
