NORCROSS - Kyle Karempelis scored four touchdowns and Conor Welton passed for two more scores as Wesleyan cruised to a 38-0 shutout of Lakeview Academy, in the Region 8-A opener for both schools at Henderson Stadium.
Donning black jerseys for the first time in school history, Wesleyan (3-2, 1-0 region) scored on every possession of the first half.
Karempelis rushed for 76 yards and three TDs and added a 75-yard receiving score as he finished with 179 all-purpose yards for the Wolves. Welton was 11 of 14 passing for 231 yards and the two touchdown passes.
"We executed well with very few negative plays and very few missed assignments." Wesleyan coach Franklin Pridgen said. "We have a lot of respect for (Lakeview) because we understand what they are going through (in their first year of varsity region play)."
Wesleyan opened with a 9-play, 80-yard drive, featuring Karempelis rushing and catching. Facing a third-and-8 from the Lakeview 44, Welton hit Karempelis with a shovel pass for 18-yards to the Lions 26. Karempelis then took a pitch around the right end 25 yards one play later for the first score of the game.
After a fumble on the initial drive for Lakeview (1-2, 0-1), the Wolves took over at the Lion 35. Two plays later, Welton found Daniel Cardwell streaking down the right-side for a 26-yard scoring strike to increase the lead to 14-0.
Wesleyan started in Lions territory again on its third drive. Welton found Anderson Porter for a gain of 22 yards to the Lakeview 20. Two plays later Karempelis scored from 19-yards out over left tackle.
With the Wolves taking over again in Lakeview territory, Welton hit Porter on gains of 26 and 3 yards.
After a shovel pass to Karempelis of 10 yards to set up first-and-goal, Karempelis scored his third TD of the night on a 10-yard run up the middle for a 28-0 Wesleyan lead.
Wesleyan struck quickly again on the next drive. Welton found Brent Pugh for two catches of eight and three yards to the Wolves 32. After holding penalty, Welton again used a shovel pass to Karempelis, this time for 75 yards, as Karempelis bounced the pass to the right-side and out race three defenders to the end zone.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Wolves recovered a muffed kickoff, setting up a short field goal from 22-yards to provide the final margin.
Wesleyan gained 291 of its 342 total yards in the first half, while holding Lakeview to 104 yards of total offense.
