Two arrested in shooting, robbery at poker game

DULUTH - Police have two men in custody accused of crashing a Duluth party in horrific fashion this week.

Armed robbers held up six people playing a private poker game in a Duluth apartment complex around midnight Wednesday. They allegedly stole laptops, wallets, cell phones, credit cards and even clothing from the players at an apartment in the 1300 block of Paces Common. During the robbery one person was shot in the hip, according to police.

One day later, police charged two Norcross men in the heist - Vu Hoang Nguyen, 20, and Binh Thanh Vuong, 22. A third suspect remains at large, according to arrest warrants.

Nguyen is charged with holding the suspects at bay with a handgun and shooting Phong Le, who was hospitalized. He faces six counts each of armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Vuong is charged with six counts of armed robbery. He helped lift the property and rifled through the victims' pockets as Nguyen held them at gunpoint, the warrants say.

Both suspects remain without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail.

It was unclear Friday how the men gained access to the apartment or if they knew the alleged victims.

Officials with the Duluth Police Department who conducted the investigation could not be reached for comment Friday.
