Hispanic Heritage Month began Sept. 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries - Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua - and an event this weekend in Lawrenceville is celebrating with a variety of activities for kids and adults.
The Hispanic Heritage Celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Wal-Mart Shopping Center parking lot at 630 Collins Hill Road in Lawrenceville. The event will include salsa lessons, folkloric dances, music, kids' activities and Latin American food.
Sharon Maloney, manager of Latino Outreach for Quality Care for Children, which is sponsoring the event in conjunction with Wal-Mart, said the Hispanic Heritage Celebration serves two purposes: to educate the public on the diverse Latin American cultures and to celebrate that diversity.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Maloney at 404-479-4236.
