Mr. Fred Carrol Higgins, age 94, of Buford, GA passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mrs. Reba Hutchins Higgins. He is survived by his Daughters and Son-In-Law: Joyce Higgins Cook, Buford, GA; Dorothy Higgins Morse, Cumming, GA; Becky Higgins Born and husband, Darrell, Buford, GA; Son and Daughter-In-Law: Jerry and Diane Higgins, Buford, GA; Grandchildren: Jack and Karen Lynn, Buford, GA, Scott and Christine McDaniel, Huntsville, AL, Tim and Jodi McDaniel, Buford, GA, Tammy and Frankie Jackson, Buford, GA, Freddie Higgins, Buford, GA, Angy and Louis Lamb, Buford, GA; Nine Great Grandchildren; Two Great- Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Kathleen Higgins Waite, Loganville, GA; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Mr. Higgins was born September 26, 1913 in Gwinnett County, GA. He was retired president from Georgia Boot Company in Flowery Branch after 28 years of service. He was trustee of Sugar Hill School. He served on the Gwinnett County Planning and Zoning Board. He was a member of the Woodman of the World. He was a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge No. 292 F & AM where he received his 50-year pin. He was one of the founders of the Buford Quartet in the early 1940's but started singing in 1938. He and the Buford Quartet participated in convention singings and sang for numerous funerals. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sugar Hill for over 70 years where he taught Sunday School for over 62 years and where he was also a member of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class with Marion Skelton as the teacher. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Mr. Zachary Brown and Rev. Charles Pirkle officiating. Interment will follow in Sugar Hill Cemetery in Sugar Hill, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escort and will meet at the Chapel by 1:30 p.m. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sugar Hill Building Fund or to Odyssey Hospice in Athens in memory of Fred Carrol Higgins.
