Duluth festival this weekend

DULUTH - The Duluth Fall Festival opens for the 26th year Saturday on the Duluth Town Green.

More than 250 arts and crafts vendors are the heart of the city festival, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Those who attend can get their festival food fix with favorites like corn dogs, ice cream and funnel cakes.

For those who want to enjoy the treats but stay fit, the 5K road race through downtown Duluth on Sunday is the perfect complement to festival food selections. For more information on the 5K or to register, visit www.duluthfallfestival.com.

The annual Duluth Fall Festival parade will kick off at 10 a.m. with grand marshal Steve McCoy of the "Steve & Vikki Morning Show," which airs on B98.5-FM on weekday mornings. Local middle school and high school orchestras, middle and high school bands, antique fire trucks and cars, local dignitaries, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, dance classes and sponsors will complete this year's parade lineup.

Festival entertainment includes dancers, singers, martial arts exhibitions and classic to contemporary rock, folk and country music. The Mustangs will headline Saturday's entertainment lineup at 8 p.m., covering top 40, classic rock, Motown and country music.

A free shuttle will operate from four parking lots - the Glancy Outpatient Building, Chattahoochee Elementary School, Gwinnett Community Bank and Mason Elementary School - from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, running every 15 minutes.
