320 participate in Walton EMC Charity Ride
LAWRENCEVILLE - More than 300 motorcycle riders from across north Georgia on Saturday participated in the sixth-annual Walton EMC Charity Ride.
This year's ride benefited Camp Twin Lakes, a facility where children with special needs and life challenges can attend camp and "just be normal kids," said Stacy Hodges, the camp's director of special events. Medical professionals volunteer to attend camp with campers, relieving parents' worries about missing treatments or other health care concerns.
Walton EMC, a customer-owned electric company, operates by cooperative principles, which is why the company holds charity events, said Greg Brooks, ride emcee and Walton EMC employee.
After the scenic ride and a rest stop, the 320 motorcyclists returned to Walton EMC headquarters for a barbecue lunch and drawings for more than 100 door prizes. Participants also received a ride T-shirt with a commemorative logo.
Walton EMC serves 118,000 accounts over its 10-county service area between Atlanta and Athens.
