New thrift store donates all profits to charity

NORCROSS - An upscale thrift store might sound like an oxymoron, but that is exactly what's arrived with the opening of Best Thrift Store. And unlike many retail outlets, this one's sole purpose is to give its profits to charity.

"We just wanted to give back to the people because a lot of people are hurting out there," said Gary Stride, who along with his wife BobbieSue Birch opened the store in July. "We just need to help people get back on their feet."

According to Birch, who serves as president of the nonprofit, all of the donated merchandise has been inspected and tested and only the best items are out on display for sale. She said there are items for everyone too - from home decor goods, children's items and furniture to electronics, jewelry, books and movies. She also said clothing and vintage items are available as well. Birch said she intends to give away all profits to a host of charities, including the Norcross Co-operative Ministry, the Battered Women's Shelter, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Her husband had another way of saying where the money would go.

"We're keeping it all in Norcross," Stride said. "We just want to give back."

Best Thrift Store is located at 6315-C Spalding Drive in the same shopping center as the Brunswick Zone bowling alley and Gold's Gym.
