HOSCHTON - It will be weeks before Hoschton gets the official word on its attempt to break a world record, but those who built the scarecrows can find out this week if they've won any awards for creativity or participation.
The awards will be handed out at 2 p.m. Saturday at the stage area of the Hoschton Fall Festival, said Robbie Bettis, a lifelong city resident and festival organizer. Of the 5,441 scarecrows set up throughout the 30548 ZIP code, 20 to 30 will be recognized as "outstanding," Bettis said. Awards will also be given to the best in show and to organizations such as churches and schools that provided the most scarecrows. Bill Gentry & The 35 Cent Rodeo will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
