Prep Roundup: Collins Hill wins division of invite

LAWRENCEVILLE - Collins Hill won its division in the Brookwood Invitational by defeating Central Gwinnett 6-2, Providence 5-0 and Ringgold 6-5 on Saturday.

Kacey Hawkshead threw four innings against Central and gave up a run on two hits and struck out five batters for Collins Hill. Michelle Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run and Briana Cason was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Nicole Heusel was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, Kayla Floor pitched a complete game shutout against Providence, and gave up three hits and struck out six. Christina Parham was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Danielle Almeida was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Floor (4-2) got her second win on the day, but in relief as Collins Hills beat Ringgold 6-5 in nine innings.

Parham was 3-for-4 with a run and Randi Rea went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Sammy Lenahan was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Lauren Reader was 2-for-2 with two runs. Almeida went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI for the Eagles (14-8).

SOFTBALL

Buford wins Brookwood division

LILBURN - Buford won the Platinum Division after shutting out Parkview 5-0, and defeating St. Pius 7-2 and North 3-2 in the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.

Melissa Dickie threw a complete game one-hitter, walked four and struck out six batters against Parkview.

Chelsie Thomas was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs and Alysha Rudnik was 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs. Whitney Holman was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Lexi Overstreet went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Brandi Hellemn was 2-for-4 for Buford. Karly Fullem (9-1) got the win after pitching a complete game, giving up two walks, three hits and striking out seven against St. Pius.

Rudnik was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base and Holman was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Overstreet was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Fullem went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Wolves.

Dickie (9-1) got her second win of the day after pitching a complete game, giving up five hits, two walks and striking out seven batters against North Gwinnett.

Rudnik was 3-for-3 with a double and RBI and Fullem was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Overstreet and Samantha Ramey each finished 1-for-3 on the day for Buford (20-2-1).

North 3, St. Pius 2

LILBURN - Kali Simmins went seven innings and gave up four hits and struck out four as North Gwinnett took a 3-2 win over St. Pius on Saturday.

Brianna Shallis was 2-for-2 with a single, double and sacrifice bunt, while Kaitlyn Smith helped by going 2-for-3 with two singles.

Cara Blenke was 2-for-3 with two singles and Caroline Rogers had a single for North (15-6-1).

Peachtree Ridge goes 2-1

SUWANEE - Peachtree Ridge took a 3-2 victory over Pike County and Wesleyan 6-5, but fell to Warner Robins 8-0 at the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.

Callie Fernandez got the win on the mound and was 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple against Pike County.

In the second game, Ashley Fulcher got the win for Peachtree Ridge.

Fernandez was 2-for-3 with a double, single and three RBIs and Chandler Frisbie was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Peachtree Ridge (17-7).

Dacula wins three

DACULA - Dacula beat Northside-Warner Robins 1-0 in nine innings, and shut out South Forsyth 8-0 and Northgate 8-0 to win its division at the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.

In the first game, Alex Payne pitched a one hitter and struck out 14 batters and Sarah Bentley was 1-for-3 at the plate for Dacula.

Alli Miles threw a one-hitter and struck out seven batters against South Forsyth. Shannon Murray went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Taryn Anthony was 2-for-3 with two runs.

Payne pitched the final game and struck out five and gave up five hits for Dacula. Murray went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Charlotte Sieber was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Dacula (16-6).

Mill Creek goes 2-1

WINDER - Mill Creek beat Apalachee 8-1, fell to Whitewater 5-4 and beat Central-Carrollton 5-1 in the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.

Morgan Bullock pitched the first game and gave up no earned runs and struck out six.

At the plate, Bullock was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Chandler Griffin was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Mill Creek went 5-4 over Whitewater in eight innings. Lauren Kaczynski pitched a complete game and gave up three earned runs.

Alex Rogers was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI and Hannah Graham was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Bullock pitched a complete-game one-hitter against Central-Carrollton and gave up no earned runs.

Lauren Stimis was 2-for-3 with a run and a sacrifice and Hannah Beth Baker went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Amberlie Saxton was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs for Mill Creek (16-4).

Wesleyan goes 1-2

SUWANEE - Wesleyan shut out Pike County 9-0 but lost to Warner Robins 5-0 and Peachtree Ridge 6-5 at the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.

Paige Hamlin was the winning pitcher for Wesleyan (16-6-1) against Pike County.

VOLLEYBALL

GAC sweeps at home

NORCROSS - GAC beat Decatur 25-20, 25-17, Paideia 25-11, 25-11 and Hebron 25-21, 25-11 on Saturday.

Amanda Komisarow had 27 kills and 12 aces and Megan Rosburg contributed 14 kills and 14 digs for GAC. Catherine Chason had eight kills and 11 aces and Brynn Massey had 47 assists for the Spartans (10-9).

Providence splits

NORCROSS - Providence beat Buford 25-21, 25-20 but lost to Decatur 25-7, 25-7 on Saturday.
