LAWRENCEVILLE - The annual county event comes to a close today, but you still have time to head out to the Gwinnett County Fair to take a spin on a few of the rides, try the delicious food offerings and play some games.
The carnival and exhibit hall at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds will open at 1 p.m. today, and rides will be operating in the Midway and Kiddieland until 10. The exhibit hall will close at 9.
Dale Thurmon, fair manager, said Friday this fair has been one of the smoothest the county has ever had. "Our customers seem to have thoroughly enjoyed visiting with us."
Thurmon said he would estimate that at the close of the fair today, about 175,000 people would have attended.
"Attendance has been steady throughout the fair, and in light of the economic conditions, I think that's fantastic," Thurmon said.
Admission to the fair is $5 for adults, $2 for people 65 and older and for children 6 to 12, and free for children younger than 6. Parking is free.
"(Today) is your last chance to come see this year's fair and enjoy all the rides and entertainment we still have available for (you)," Thurmon said. "We just hope that (today's) weather is great like the last couple of days.
"And we're already making plans for next year's fair," he added.
