LAWRENCEVILLE - A portion of Rock Springs Park will open this weekend so football games can be played this fall.
The 114-acre park, located on Rock Springs Road, will be the site of home games for the Collins Hill Youth Athletic Association.
In addition to the football field with a lighted walking track, the portion of the park opening Saturday includes a concession building, press box and two miles of paved multi-purpose trails.
According to a press release, the remainder of the park - featuring six lighted tennis courts, a playground and a pavilion - will open by the end of the year.
"Rock Springs is considered a 'sister' park to nearby Collins Hill Park," Gwinnett Parks and Recreation Director Sharon Plunkett said. "Both parks complement each other's offerings and give us a way to serve the citizens and the strong youth athletic association at the park that has been in existence for many years."
The park, funded by the special purpose local option sales tax, was designed by Lose & Associates Inc. and the contractor for the project is ACE Grading Company LLC.
