Prep roundup: Broome throws perfect game as North tops Chattahoochee

SUWANEE - Brittany Broome turned in a big performance on senior night for North Gwinnett with five perfect innings in the Bulldogs' 8-0 win over Chattahoochee.

Broome, who was also 2-for-3 at the plate, struck out five as North improved to 12-3-1 overall and 5-0 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Kacey Martin, Emily Bean and Chloe Babcock each helped with two hits while Kristen Hall, Sammie Rao, Brianna Shallis, Kristen O'Neill and Brandee Kocik each had one hit.

SOFTBALL

Brookwood 12, South Gwinnett 2

SNELLVILLE - Brookwood put a damper on South's senior night as the Broncos handed the Comets their 15th loss of the season.

Rachel Ludick took the mound for South (4-15-1, 2-3 8-AAAAA), giving up seven hits in five innings while striking out two. Her record dropped to 3-10.

Danyelle Wilson, Lizzi Perry and Jordan Shuther each collected hits for South, with Wilson and Perry each scoring runs.

Brookwood (6-11-1, 2-2) received two hits and two RBIs from Brandi Jones, who also allowed three hits with six strikeouts in earning the win. Other contributing players were Jessica Neidigh (2-for-4, three runs), Julia Westbrook (2-for-4, RBI), Kelli Brewer (hit, two RBIs) and Jenny Blackwell (1-for-2).

Central Gwinnett 8, Shiloh 0

SNELLVILLE - Central Gwinnett picked up a Region 8-AAAAA win on Tuesday by beating Shiloh 8-0 in five innings.

Ginny Emery pitched five innings with seven strikeouts and five hits in improving her record to 3-8. Kara Hembree and Kaitlin Hussey each were 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Alyssa Munck drove in two runs with a double for Central (5-16, 2-3).

Dacula 9, Grayson 0

DACULA - Allie Miles allowed just two hits and struck out 10 on Tuesday in leading Dacula to a 9-0 shutout over Grayson. Miles improved to 7-0.

Shannon Murray led the offense for the Falcons (12-4, 4-0) with four RBIs while Kelsea Martin and Sydney Glascow were each 2-for-3 with two runs.

Collins Hill 4, South Forsyth 0

CUMMING - Kayla Floor allowed just four hits with eight strikeouts on Tuesday in leading Collins Hill to a 4-0 shutout over South Forsyth. The win improved Floor to 2-1.

Michelle Johnson had a double and two RBIs to lead the offense while Karlie Gillam had two doubles and scored twice. Randi Rea also finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles (11-5, 3-4) while Christina Parham was 2-for-4 with a double.

Norcross 3, North Forsyth 0

NORCROSS - Norcross received a strong pitching effort from Alexandra Foulke on Tuesday as the Blue Devils blanked North Forsyth 3-0.

Foulke went seven innings, surrendering just three hits with eight strikeouts. Sarah Moseley led the offense for Norcross (7-6, 4-1), going 2-for-2 with a triple while Samantha Findling was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

GAC 12, Westminster 4

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian forged out 13 hits on Tuesday en route to a 12-4 win in Region 6-AA play.

Sarah Armstrong pitched six innings for the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Kamerin Moon powered the offense with a 2-for-4 day with a two-run homer.

Mady Baker also had two hits and two runs for GAC (9-7, 2-2) while Cecelia Stephens was 2-for-3 with a run.

Buford 4, Blessed Trinity 0

BUFORD - Melissa Dickie of Buford fired a two-hit shutout on Tuesday in leading the Wolves to a 4-0 win over Blessed Trinity. Dickie (6-1) struck out seven and walked just two.

Alysha Rudnik led the offense for Buford (15-2, 3-0), going 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run. Kallie Case added a double and scored two runs while Chelsie Thomas and Whitney Wolfe each had a hit.

Wesleyan 12, Paideia 2

ATLANTA - Brittany Mitchell threw five strong innings and Erin Hall went 4-for-4 with two triples and drove in two runs as the Wolves (12-3-1, 3-1) posted a Region 7-A victory on the road Tuesday.

Mitchell went the distance in the run-rule shortened game, giving up just two earned runs and striking out 10 Python batters.

She got offensive support from Hall, as well as Paige Hamlin, who was 2-for-2 and scored three runs, and Kelsey Sanders, who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Hebron 5, Commerce 1

DACULA - Hebron stayed perfect in Region 8-A on Tuesday with a 5-1 win over Commerce.

Victoria Sink struck out 13 and allowed just three hits in the compete-game effort as the Lions improved to 8-8 overall and 4-0 in the region.

Offensively, Jorie Weirather, Megan Griffin, Megan Dixon and Annie Ranus each had two hits while Elizabeth Stanley scored three runs.

Meadowcreek 19, Avondale 11

NORCROSS - Meadowcreek notched its first win on Monday night by outslugging Avondale 19-11.

The win was a nice birthday present for Aurora Aruelo who earned the decision for the Mustangs (1-5) while Kendrelle Williams and Karleisha Austin each went 3-for-4.

VOLLEYBALL

Parkview sweeps pair

LOGANVILLE - The Panthers (11-10, 1-0) picked up a pair of wins in Tuesday's play day at Grayson, beating the host Rams 25-14, 24-26, 25-12 in their Area 8-AAAAA opener and then defeated Meadowcreek 25-14, 25-13.

Leading the way for Parkview were Jordan Flanagan with 28 digs, Libby Lukens with 25 assists, Amanda France with 10 service aces and Lauren Coleman with 14 kills.

Brookwood beats Berkmar and Central

LILBURN - Brookwood won its first two Area 8-AAAAA matches on Tuesday with wins over Berkmar (25-16, 25-14) and Central Gwinnett (25-11, 25-20).

Leading Brookwood (12-12, 2-0) were Melanie Thompson (10 aces, nine kills), Kelsey Gratton (nine kills, four aces) and Katie Mallow (six kills, three aces).

Central (5-18, 1-1) rebounded by beating Berkmar in three games 25-20, 18-25, 25-23.

Mill Creek splits with Hebron and Chamblee

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek moved its record to 14-9 on Tuesday by beating Hebron 25-21, 25-21 but falling to Chamblee 25-17, 20-25, 25-20.

Ashley Jackson set things up for Mill Creek with 31 assists while Lauren Rhodes had 19 kills and eight assists and Alyson White finished with 15 digs and seven aces.

Hebron (9-15) also fell to Chamblee 25-18, 25-13. Courtney Bishop had nine kills and a pair of aces to lead Hebron, while Sarah Headrick added eight kills and two aces and Jenny Conner handed out eight assists.

Dacula takes two in area

SNELLVILLE - The Falcons (11-4, 2-0) swept through their first Area 8-AAAAA play day at South Gwinnett on Tuesday, beating the host Comets 25-16, 25-22 and Shiloh 25-13, 25-15.

Sarah Beth White led with way with 11 kills and four service aces, while Courtney Weider was also strong at the service line with six aces and Roselande Corneille handed out 24 assists.

Courtney Adams played a solid game up front at middle blocker as Shiloh rebounded for a 25-17, 25-18 win over South.

Wesleyan wins two

ATLANTA - Wesleyan remained undefeated in Area 7-AA/A with two wins, dominating Cross Keys 25-2, 25-6 and Galloway 25-7, 25-9 on Tuesday.

The Wolves (28-7, 6-0) were led on the court by Paige Lamons, who collected 10 aces and two kills. Other key contributors were Alex Middleton, who had three aces and three kills, Wilson Sprinkle, who had four aces and five kills, and Callie Bibings, who tallied 14 assists.

GAC tops Buford and Lakeview

GAINESVILLE - Greater Atlanta Christian played its Area 4-AA/A opener on Tuesday and beat Buford in two games 25-9, 25-9.

The Spartans (7-8, 1-0) also played Lakeview Academy and posted a 25-11, 25-9 win in non-area play. Brynn Massey led the way for GAC with 28 assists while Amanda Komisarow helped with 15 kills.

Megan Rosburg played well with 13 digs and nine kills while Katie Stevens served seven aces.
