Broncos' Anyan, Eagles' Winslow get honors
Brookwood's Tyler Anyan and Collins Hill's Amanda Winslow were named runners of the week on Monday by the Gwinnett County cross country coaches.
Anyan was third in the Carrollton Invitational's boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 3 seconds. Winslow won the Carrollton Invitational girls championship with a time of 18:48.
Arthur, Maurer earn soccer honors
University of South Carolina soccer players Sam Arthur and Jimmy Maurer picked up player of the week honors on Monday.
Arthur, a GAC grad, was named TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week after the sophomore tallied four goals and two assists for the Gamecocks' wins over the weekend.
Maurer, a St. Pius grad from Lawrenceville, was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore had a flawless weekend in goal as he collected nine saves in two shutout victories.
Falcons to host shoe drive today
Atlanta Falcons linemen Todd McClure and Jonathan Babineaux will host Soles4Souls, a shoe drive for those affected by Hurricane Ike, today at the Shoe Carnival at Venture Point Shopping Center in Duluth.
The Falcons will sign an autograph for each donation of new or gently worn shoes or for a donation of $2 to the foundation. McClure will sign from noon to 2 p.m. and Babineaux will sign from 4 to 6 p.m.

Berkmar's Davis featured on 'Prep Rally'
"Gwinnett Prep Rally," a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs football highlights from Grayson-Dacula, Parkview-Berkmar, Norcross-Mill Creek and South Gwinnett-Meadowcreek on this week's show.
Berkmar's Troy Davis is the featured athlete. Norcross' Wesley Hollingshed, Grayson's James Earl Jones and Parkview's Brandon Jacobs are also featured.

Local Chick-fil-A restaurants host golf tourney for troops
The Snellville Chick-fil-A restaurants will host its inaugural Teeing Off for Troops Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 22 at Monroe Golf and Country Club.
Funds raised from the event will be used to purchase and distribute care package items to a military unit deployed in Afghanistan. Cost is $125 for an individual and $400 for a foursome. Shotgun start is at noon.

Gladiators games to be on TV
DULUTH - The Gwinnett Gladiators have again teamed up with the Gwinnett Sports Commission, the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau and TVGwinnett Channel 23 to broadcast select games during the 2008-09 season.
The Gladiators and TVGwinnett Channel 23 will show the following games on tape delay: Nov. 15 vs. South Carolina; Jan. 17 vs. Florida; Feb. 2 vs. Mississippi; March 7 vs. Trenton and April 3 vs. South Carolina. They will be rebroadcasted during the following week.
Gladiators director of broadcasting Dustin Bixby will handle the play-by-play and Daily Post staff writer Christine Troyke will provide color commentary.
