ATLANTA - The rewards of breaking their county-record, 43-game losing streak keep coming for the Meadowcreek football players and coaches.
The Touchdown Club of Atlanta announced on Thursday that Meadowcreek was selected as its Team of the Week, while head coach Terrone Owens was named the club's Coach of the Week. Owens, previously an assistant with the Mustangs, took over as interim head coach just days before the season opener when Reggie Perry resigned to become Stephenson's athletic director.
In his second game as head coach, Owens led Meadowcreek to a 24-14 victory over Duluth. It was the program's first varsity win since Oct. 31, 2003.
Owens and the Mustangs will be honored Monday at the club's weekly meeting at the Fox Sports Grill at Atlantic Station. The featured speaker is college football analyst and former Auburn coach Terry Bowden.
The other high school award winners to be honored on Monday are Back of the Week Morgan Alexander of Cartersville and Lineman of the Week Derrick Lott of North Cobb.
