FBI: Man robbed Wachovia, fled

FLOWERY BRANCH - Federal investigators are searching for a man who allegedly held up a Wachovia Bank and fled in a stolen vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash Thursday morning.

FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett, of the Atlanta Field Office, said a black man in his early- to late-20s entered a Wachovia Bank on Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch at 10:46 a.m. Thursday and jumped on the teller counter to announce the armed robbery.

Disguised in sunglasses and either a mask or a hood, the man pointed a black handgun at the head of a teller and demanded she open the bank's vault, Emmett said. When she hesitated, the man pointed the gun at a second teller.

"The second teller and the robber proceeded to the vault area of the bank where the robber obtained an undisclosed amount of money and placed it in a blue canvas bag," Emmett said.

The suspect vaulted back over the teller counter and fled the bank. He was seen getting into a GMC 1500 series pickup truck. Emmett said Gwinnett authorities confirmed the vehicle was stolen from Mill Creek High School.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the FBI's Atlanta Field Office at 404-679-9000.
