Gwinnett Daily Post
Maybe Nick Green's forgettable season will have a memorable ending.
Green's Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team will play Durham in the best-of-5 International League Governors' Cup Championship Series beginning tonight in Pennsylvania. The former Atlanta Brave from Duluth had one of his team's four hits Sunday as the Yankees advanced with a 2-0 victory over Pawtucket. Durham eliminated Louisville, also in four games. Durham, a Tampa Bay affiliate, won IL titles in 2002 and 2003. The Bulls lost in the final series last year to the Richmond Braves, who are moving to Gwinnett County for next season. Green, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre shortstop, struggled at the plate most of the Class AAA regular season, but batted .400 in the last 10 games and was named the IL's final player of the week. Green, who turns 30 on Wednesday, finished with a .233 average, 12 homers and 50 RBIs in 112 games for the New York Yankees' top minor league team. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was 7-1 against Durham during the regular season.More like this story
