Prep roundup: Buford rolls at own invite

BUFORD - Buford defeated Union County 6-4 then shut out Chestatee 15-0 and Jefferson 8-0 at the sixth annual Buford Invitational on Saturday.

In the first game, Karly Fullem (5-1) threw seven innings and gave up six hits while striking out four batters.

Samantha Ramey was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Whitney Holman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Kallie Case went 2-for-4 with a run for the Wolves.

The second game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule. Tricia Warbington (2-0) threw a no-hitter, giving up two walks and striking out six.

Alysha Rudnik went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs. Ansley Kozloski was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Chelsie Thomas was 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

The third game was also called in the fifth inning. Melissa Dickie (4-1) registered the win after pitching a no-hitter. She struck out 11 batters and gave up only two walks.

At the plate, Dickie was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Rudnik went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, two RBIs and a run, while Whitney Wolfe went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs for Buford (11-2).

SOFTBALL

Wesleyan wins three of four

CANTON - Wesleyan beat Chestatee 9-3 and Stephens County 6-3, lost to Flowery Branch 5-4 and then defeated Creekview 3-1 at the Buford Invitational on Saturday.

In the first game, Brittany Mitchell got the win and was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Logan Morris was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

In the second game, Paige Hamlin was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Grace Cowart was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, while her cousin Shelbie Cowart went 2-for-2 with a run.

Morris went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI and Caitlin Crabill was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game against Flowery Branch.

Hamlin got the win against Creekview and offensively she had three RBIs. Erin Hall was 1-for-3 with a run for Wesleyan (7-1-1).

Mill Creek shuts out Walton, Northside-Columbus

COLUMBUS - Mill Creek blanked Walton 2-0 and Northside-Columbus 3-0 at the Shaw Invitational on Saturday.

Morgan Bullock got both wins after pitching two complete-game shutouts and striking out a total of 17 batters for the day.

In the first game, Karlee Beggs was 2-for-3 and Hannah Graham was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Amberlie Saxton was 1-for-3 with a home run.

In the second game, Bullock went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Graham was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base for Mill Creek (8-2).

VOLLEYBALL

Dacula sweeps

KENNESAW - Dacula defeated Kell (25-21, 20-25, 25-20), Hillgrove (27-25, 25-16) and North Cobb (25-10, 25-18) at the Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge on Saturday.

Courtney Weider had 22 digs and five aces. Madison Kubal contributed 14 kills and 20 digs.

Sara Beth White totaled 27 kills and Rose Corneille had 55 assists for Dacula (6-3).

Wesleyan goes 4-1

ATLANTA - Wesleyan won four if its five matches at the AA/A Top 10 Play Day on Saturday at Holy Innocents'. The four-time defending state champions lost only to Westminster. The Wolves beat Landmark Christian (26-24, 25-13), Walker (25-19, 25-15), GAC (25-21, 26-24) and Decatur (25-7, 25-23) to improve to 16-5 overall this season.

Anne Marie Armstrong contributed 58 kills and Maggie Smith totaled 84 assists for Wesleyan.

GAC has tough day

ATLANTA - GAC fell to Lovett (25-18, 25-14), Blessed Trinity (20-25, 25-13, 25-17), Wesleyan (25-21, 26-24) and Holy Innocents' (25-19, 26-25) at the A-AA Top 10 Play Day on Saturday.

Amanda Komisarow finished the day with 43 kills and six aces. Megan Rosburg had 18 kills, 39 digs and seven aces. Catherine Chason contributed 25 digs and Brynn Massey had 55 assists for GAC (4-8).

Central wins one, loses three

KENNESAW - Central Gwinnett fell to Marietta (24-26, 25-11, 25-20) and North Cobb (25-18, 22-25, 25-19), beat Wheeler (18-25, 25-12, 25-22) and lost the final match to Kell (25-21, 25-22) at the Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge on Saturday.

Central's record is now 4-11.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Providence comes in sixth

ROME - Providence Christian came in sixth in the A/AA/AAA cross country race on Saturday at the Berry Invitational.

Lauren Kelly led Providence and was 23rd in 22 minutes, 3 seconds. Allison Preg finished in 22:21, Jordan Kelly came in at 22:22, Sarah Sharpe finished at 22:50 and Beth Morris at 24:11.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Providence finishes ninth

ROME - Elias Crist came in at 17:41 and finished 17th for Providence as the Stars finished ninth as a team on Saturday at the Berry Invitational.

Stephen Dubert came in at 17:56, Jonathan Preg at 18:42, Keith Kreutzer at 18:47 and Sam Stephens at 19:49 for Providence.
