LAWRENCEVILLE - A Snellville man charged with vehicular homicide in the 2005 death of a Marietta motorist is expected to face a jury trial this week.
Nazim Chandrani is accused of killing Kevin Thiel in a three-car crash on U.S. Highway 78 in October 2005. Prosecutors say Chandrani drove his 2002 Acura recklessly through rush-hour traffic, swerving into oncoming cars and hitting Thiel's 1999 Plymouth Voyager head-on. Thiel died at the scene. Both Chandrani and his passenger, who was 3 years old, were hospitalized with critical injuries, police said at the time. Occupants of the third car were not seriously injured. Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Tom Davis is expected to hear the case this week, a court representative said. Chandrani was arrested Nov. 9, 2005, after his release from the hospital. He posted $98,500 bond and was released from the Gwinnett County Jail on Dec. 4 that year.More like this story
