LAWRENCEVILLE - Maxwell High School of Technology is having an open house Thursday evening for parents of the school's current students.
About 1,000 juniors and seniors are taking courses at the school, principal Donna Powers said. Students, who come from Gwinnett County Public Schools' 15 cluster high schools, signed up in January to take classes at Maxwell High. During the open house, scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m., parents will have a chance to meet teachers and tour the school's different labs. Students will also demonstrate the skills they are learning in the classroom. Courses offered at the school include auto collision repair, automotive services, commercial arts, computer aided drafting, construction, cosmetology, early childhood education, electronics, graphic communications, health care sciences, public safety and welding. The school will have another open house on Nov. 20 for prospective students interested in learning more about the school.
