DULUTH - Gwinnett County eighth-graders interested in attending the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology can soon access information about the charter school's registration process.
Registration information will be available Saturday on the Gwinnett County Public Schools Web site, www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us, and the GSMST Web site, www.gsmst.org, school officials said. Information will also be available at GCPS middle schools.
Students and their parents will have about three months to review information, learn about the school's rigorous curriculum and complete the registration documents before the Jan. 23 deadline. Informational meetings will be held in several locations throughout the county before the deadline. The dates, times and locations of those meetings will be announced on the school's Web site in November.
Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology is a system-sponsored charter school approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Enrollment is open to all current eighth-grade students who live in Gwinnett County and who complete promotion requirements.
The school will accept 250 students for the incoming freshman class, the third class to join the high school. If the number of registrations exceeds the school's capacity, the school system will conduct a random lottery to determine who will be accepted.
GSMST opened in 2007 on the Duluth High campus. In 2010, the school will move to its permanent location in Lawrenceville.
