Early voting lines moving more quickly

LAWRENCEVILLE - Voting lines moved more quickly Tuesday as election workers made adjustments to the heavy crowds casting ballots a week before Election Day.

Gwinnett Elections Director Lynn Ledford said wait times at the county's elections office and four satellite locations were between two and three hours Tuesday, although they stretched to four hours when people came to the polls after work.

But the wait time was a reduction from Monday, when a computer glitch caused voters to wait more than eight hours.

The most crowded location Monday was the Centerville Community Center, on Bethany Church Road in Snellville, which had 1,716 voters - five more people than the main office at 455 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville.

At George Pierce Park Community Center on Buford Highway in Suwanee, 1,630 cast ballots, with 1,338 at the Singleton Road Activity Building in Norcross and 1,145 at the Dacula Activity Building in Dacula Park.

Ledford said the speedier lines may have allowed a "couple of hundred" more voters to cast ballots Tuesday.

The early voting offices will remain open through Friday, with polling locations open throughout Gwinnett from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 4.

MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN TO THE LAWRENCEVILLE EARLY VOTER SITE ON FRIDAY AND THE GEORGE PIERCE LOCATION ON SATURDAY. ON BOTH DAYS THE LINES WERE AROUND THE BLOCK AND DOWN THE ROAD. EVEN PARKING WAS A NIGHTMARE AT GEORGE PIERCE PARK ON SATURDAY. **HAS ANYONE TOLD THE COUNTY ELECTION BOARD HOW MANY VOTERS GWINNETT CURRENTLY HAS ENROLLED? WHY WOULD THEY USE A HOTLY CONTESTED PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO CUT DOWN THE NUMBER OF DAYS TO EARLY VOTE? IF MS. LEDFORD IS NEW TO HER JOB, LETS LOOK FURTHER TO SOMEONE WITH SOME COMMON SENSE.

I'VE ALSO SEEN TWO DIFFERENT OPENING TIME FOR THE POLS ON MONDAY IN THIS VERY NEWSPAPER. YOU'VE REFERENCED HOURS AS 7 TO 7 AND 9 TO 7. PICK A NUMBER !!
