Pumpkin festival offers events for kids, adults

The final weekend for Stone Mountain's Pumpkin Festival offers opportunities to experiment.

Organizers said kids and adults have been enjoying the Sci Guys Science Show, a new addition to Stone Mountain's attractions that allows hands-on experimentation with dry ice. Kids can assist performers in creating smoke-filled bubbles, popping a top and more.

"It's a lot of fun for the parents who are watching," said the show's co-producer, Brandon Rose, "(and everyone is) very interested and have lots of questions at the end of the show."

Show times for the Sci Guys Science Show are 12:30, 2 and 4 p.m. today and Sunday and 1, 2, 4 and 5 p.m. Saturday. The show lasts 25 minutes.

Those who attend Stone Mountain's Pumpkin Festival can also try out the new Sky Hike, an adventure course through the treetops with a 12-foot trail for beginners, a 24-foot trek for those more confident and a 40-foot course for the truly brave.

"Families really enjoy Sky Hike because they can do the attraction together," said Kelley Swann, public relations coordinator for the park.

Stone Mountain's Pumpkin Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit www.stonemountainpark.com or call 770-498-5690.
