Billy Lamar Benifield, age 65, of Buford, GA died Sunday, October 19, 2008. Surviving are his wife of more than 42 years, Mary McCright Benifield of Buford; daughter, Patricia Benifield of Lawrenceville; sons and daughter-in-law, Billy Benifield, Jr. of Buford and Chris and Anna Benifield of Atlanta; Grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Peace of Lawrenceville; sister, Shirley Millwood of Caryville, FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Benifield of Clover, SC, Roy and Velda Benifield of Martin, GA and Annette Benifield of Huntersville, NC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Billy was born on July 18, 1943 on Black Jack Road in Buford. He was a supportive and loving Dad to his three children and a devoted grandpa. Billy graduated from Dacula High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in the U. S. Marine Corps for 4 1/2 years. He retired from the Recycling Bank of Gwinnett but he was an auto mechanic by trade. He had a great love and passion for Little League Baseball being involved for 32 years by coaching, umpiring and serving as Commissioner of Baseball. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie McCright officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Hoschton, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans or the American Cancer Society in memory of Billy Lamar Benifield.
