'FairTax' supporters rally for Chambliss

ATLANTA - Supporters of a plan to erase the income tax and replace it with a national sales tax say a new Democratic ad targeting Sen. Saxby Chambliss could backfire by energizing the Republican's conservative base.

About four dozen supporters of what proponents call the 'fair tax' rallied at the state Capitol with Chambliss on Friday. The ad sponsored by the Washington D.C.-based Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee said Chambliss supports 'a 23 percent national sales tax on nearly everything you buy.'
