Prep Roundup: Host Buford boys third at invitational

BUFORD - Paced by a time of 18 minutes, 19 seconds from Matthew Johnson the Buford boys cross country team finished third in the Buford Invitational on Tuesday.

Johnson's time gave him third place, while Alex Oliver took 10th in 19:03.

The Buford girls finished out of the top three overall, but Dottie Kellogg took a personal third place with a time


Providence sprints past Westminster, Walker

ATLANTA - Providence runners finished in the top four spots at the Westminster Invitational, winning the cross country meet over the host and Walker.

Elias Crist (18:02), Jonathan Preg (18:06), Eric Mills (18:15) and Stephen Dubbert (18:17) took the top four spots.


Dacula tops North on Senior Night

DACULA - In the final home match of the season, the Dacula volleyball team split, beating North Gwinnett (26-24, 25-14) and losing to Milton (25-21, 25-22).

Sara Beth White had 18 kills, Courntey Williams added 12 and Roselande Corndille had 33 assists on the night.

Wesleyan in title game

NORCROSS - With dominant wins over St. Francis (25-4, 25-3) and Atlanta International School (25-6, 25-17), the Wesleyan volleyball team will play in the Area 7 A/AA finals Thursday.

In the four games, Maggie Smith racked up 37 assists, four kills and three aces, while Grace Leah Baughn had five aces, nine kills and eight digs and Anne Marie Armstrong had 28 kills, six digs and six aces for the Wolves (44-7).

GAC wins 4 A/AA bracket

LILBURN - With a win over rival Buford (25-16, 25-15), GAC advances to play Decatur on Thursday in the Area 4 A/AA tournament.

Amanda Komisarow had 12 kills and six digs, Megan Rosberg had four kills and four aces and Brynn Massey had 18 assists for the Spartans (18-12).

In the loss, Buford's Hannah Parets had five kills.

In its first game, led by eight kills from Hallye Jerkins, Buford beat Hebron (17-25, 25-17, 25-18). Elizabeth Durden had three aces and eight digs in the win.

For Hebron, Elize Murray had six kills and two blocks, Courtney Bishop had seven kills, Sarah Hedrick had six kills and Jenny Conner had six assists.

Host Providence split its matches, beating Paidea (25-6, 26-28, 26-24) and losing to Decatur (25-20, 25-22).
