BUFORD - For anyone who needs to shred important paper documents that might contain private information such as a Social Security number or an account number, Tuesday is your lucky day.
Identity Theft Shred Day, co-sponsored by the Rippy Group LLC., Allstate Agency and Shredderman Document Destruction Service, will take place in the parking lot of Brent Rippy's Allstate offices at 3280 Hamilton Mill Road from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Members of the Allstate Insurance Company will be on hand to answer questions about protecting yourself from identity theft and Shredderman will have secure bins available for anyone who wants to drop off materials to be shredded at their off-site facility in Alpharetta. "This event is a great way for Allstate and our agency to give back to the community," Rippy said. "People need a safe way to dispose of old, unneeded papers and records that may contain personal and financial information." The Federal Trade Commission estimates that 9,000,000 Americans are the victims of identity theft annually. Of those, 10 percent spend $1,200 and at least 55 hours resolving their issues.More like this story
