NORCROSS - Of the 175 students and staff members at Meadowcreek High School tested Wednesday for tuberculosis, 25 had positive readings and must now have a chest X-ray, officials said Friday.

The individuals with positive readings showed no signs or symptoms of having the airborne disease, said Sloan Roach, spokeswoman for Gwinnett County Public Schools. The results of their skin tests, read Friday by Gwinnett County Health Department officials, just indicated they have been exposed to tuberculosis at some point in their lives.

Officials have asked the 25 people to get chest X-rays within the next 72 hours.

Ten students who were absent from school today have been asked to visit the Norcross Health Center to have their skin tests ready by today. If they do not, they will need to repeat the test next week, Roach said.

Those who were tested for TB were identified as the people who were in closest and continuous contact with an 11th-grader who had a suspected case of the disease. Roach said last week the junior is under medical care.
