HOSCHTON - Krysten Connelly pitched a one-hitter and the Peachtree Ridge offense erupted on Monday for a 10-0 victory over seventh-ranked North Gwinnett in the Region 7-AAAAA fastpitch softball tournament.
The Lions (20-10) play host Mill Creek today at 7 p.m. in the tourney semifinals.
Connelly struck out 11 batters in the complete game, getting plenty of help from her offense.
Sade Johnson went 2-for-5 with her second inside-the-park home run of the season and scored two runs and Gabby Bedard was 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
Chandler Frisbie was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two doubles for Peachtree Ridge, while Callie Fernandez (two RBIs, two runs) and Ashley Sawdey (2-for-4, two runs) also had big games.
North (19-8-1) falls into a Wednesday loser's bracket game at 5 p.m. against the winner of today's Duluth-Norcross game.
Duluth 4, Collins Hill 3
HOSCHTON - Eighth-seeded Duluth exploded for a four-run second inning and held off Collins Hill for a 4-3 upset victory on Monday in the Region 7-AAAAA fastpitch softball tournament at Mill Creek.
The Wildcats (14-14) advance to play Norcross today at 5 p.m., with the winner earning a spot in the Class AAAAA North Sectional.
Duluth did all its damage with two outs in the third inning, starting a rally with a walk from Casey Nellums and a hit from Chantelle Curinton. Sam Martin followed with a hit, driving in two runs.
Christina Holt then had an RBI double before Maggie Kooker's RBI single made it 4-0. Kooker also was the winning pitcher.
Collins Hill, which saw its season end at 17-12, got a 3-for-3 day from Randi Rea and a 2-for-4 game with double and two RBIs from Michelle Johnson. Christina Parham added a hit and a run scored.
Norcross 1, Northview 0
HOSCHTON - Alexandra Foulke pitched a shutout and had the game's only RBI on Monday as Norcross defeated Northview 1-0 in the 7-AAAAA tournament at Mill Creek. Foulke struck out five batters and allowed only three hits.
Jessie Locklear (3-for-3), Heidi Shape (2-for-3, double) and Samantha Findling (2-for-3) led the offense for Norcross, which plays Duluth today at 5 p.m. for a berth in the AAAAA state sectionals.
Dacula 2, Grayson 0
DACULA - Allie Miles struck out 14 batters in a two-hitter, giving Dacula a 2-0 win over Grayson in the 8-AAAAA tourney on Monday.
The 20-6 Falcons, who clinched a berth in AAAAA state sectionals, will host Parkview today at 7 p.m. in the tournament semifinals.
Sydney Glasgow was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run for the Falcons and Sarah Bentley was 2-for-3. Meghan Heller drove in both of Dacula's runs.
Grayson got a solid effort from pitcher Nancy Hill, who gave up just four hits. Ariel LaRocca and Hayley Downs had the Rams' only hits off Miles.
Parkview 5, Brookwood 0
DACULA - Desiree Thomas (13-5) threw a complete-game shutout and drove in two runs at the plate to help Parkview (22-7) clinch a berth in the Class AAAAA state sectionals with a win in the second round of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament Monday.
Thomas gave up just two hits and struck out six in going the distance.
Jordan DeArmon and Summer Rose each had three hits on the day, with the latter adding an RBI, while Jennifer Wormley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Parkview will face the Dacula-Grayson winner in tonight's winner's bracket finals at 7 p.m.
Central 3, Shiloh 1
DACULA - Central Gwinnett got a two-hitter from pitcher Ginny Emery to defeat Shiloh 3-1 in an 8-AAAAA tournament elimination game on Monday.
The Black Knights (8-22) play Brookwood today at 3 p.m. at Dacula.
Emery struck out seven batters in a complete-game effort. Katie New (3-for-3, run, stolen base) and Kara Hembree (2-for-3, run, stolen base) led the Central offense.
Dacula splits at Riverwood
ATLANTA - Dacula defeated Riverwood 25-21, 25-22 on Monday, but Alpharetta defeated the Falcons 25-16, 19-25, 25-21 in the nightcap.
Madison Kubal (three aces), Roselande Corneille (40 assists), Sara Beth White (17 kills) and Courtney Williams (13 kills) led Dacula in the road matches.
