LAWRENCEVILLE - Jurors continued mulling evidence Monday in the trial of a Lilburn man accused of heading a home-invasion posse that terrorized Gwinnett four years ago, a prosecutor said.
Deliberations began Friday, and the jury had yet to reach a verdict late Monday in the case of Mario Alberto Silverio, 22, said Assistant District Attorney Lisa Jones. Silverio is accused of leading and supplying guns to a nine-man team of robbers who tied up, tortured, sexually assaulted and shot victims between February and April 2004. The gunmen targeted eight Hispanic families and one Jamaican family across Gwinnett during the tirade, Jones said. Silverio faces a multitude of charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated sexual battery. He faces life in prison if convicted. Silverio and his alleged accomplices were arrested in late April 2004 at separate residences. He has remained at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond since. Jones said four of the accused have entered guilty pleas, two are awaiting trial and one man, Gustavo Cisneros, has been convicted of a role similar to that which Silverio is accused of. A Gwinnett Superior Court judge sentenced Cisneros in June to six life sentences plus 211 years, she said. The ninth suspect, a juvenile, was mistakenly set free, Jones said. Jury deliberations in the Silverio case are expected to resume this morning.More like this story
