Prep Roundup: Jones tosses shutout, scores only run

DACULA - Brandi Jones pitched a complete game and gave up three hits and struck out 10 as Brookwood defeated Central Gwinnett 1-0 on Thursday.

Jones also scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Broncos.

Chelsea Hawkins was 2-for-3 and Aubrey Kemp was 1-for-2 with a double for Brookwood (12-16-2).


Buford 5, GAC 2

NORCROSS - Melissa Dickie (12-1) struck out six, gave up three hits, two walks and one earned run as Buford took a 5-2 win over GAC on Thursday.

Alysha Rudnik was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk and Samantha Ramey went 2-for-3 with two runs. Brandi Hellemn was 1-for-3 with two runs and Karly Fullem went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Buford (25-2-1).

Peachtree Ridge 5, Norcross 0

HOSCHTON - Krysten Connelly (15-7) threw a complete game and gave up four hits and struck out eight as Peachtree Ridge shut out Norcross 5-0 on Thursday.

Sade Johnson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Gabby Bedard went 2-for-4. Callie Fernandez finished 2-for-3 and Connelly was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Peachtree Ridge (20-10).

Grayson 9, South 3

DACULA - Nancy Hill pitched five 1/3 innings and gave up six hits and struck out three batters as Grayson defeated South Gwinnett 9-3 on Thursday.

Ashley Berger pitched the last inning in relief and gave up three hits and struck out one.

Offensively, Savannah Berkhiser and Lauren Moore each had three hits and Ariel LaRocca and Rachel McElroy each had two hits for the Rams (8-15).

Parkview 4, Shiloh 1

DACULA - Jordan DeArmon threw seven innings, gave up an earned run, six hits, two walks and struck out five batters as Parkview beat Shiloh 4-1 on Thursday.

Jennifer Wormley went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Desirae Thomas was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Sara Coker was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Panthers.

North 2, Collins Hill 1

SUWANEE - Alex McDavid (10-2) gave up five hits and struck out eight batters as North Gwinnett defeated Collins Hill 2-1 in eight innings Thursday.

Kacey Martin hit a double to bring in two runs to win the game in the eighth.

Brandee Kocik had a double and Tori Freedman and Brittany Broome both had a single for North (19-7-1).

Melissa Hinesley was 3-for-3 with two doubles and Nicole Heusel was 1-for-2 with a single and RBI for the Eagles. Lauren Reader pitched all eight innings and gave up only three hits, two runs and no earned runs for Collins Hill (17-11).

Duluth 3, South Forsyth 0

SUWANEE - Sam Martin went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a double to help Duluth shut out South Forsyth 3-0 on Thursday.

Ivy Knox was 1-for-2 and Sam Metzler went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Maggie Kooker got the win for Duluth.

Wesleyan 2, Providence 0

NORCROSS - Paige Hamlin struck out four batters and gave up two hits as Wesleyan shut out Providence 2-0 in the 7-A tournament Thursday.

Caitlin Crabill hit a two-run home run for Wesleyan (17-9-1).

Kylie Kleinschmidt (14-8) gave up only one hit and struck out 17 batters for Providence. Morgan Johnston had two hits and Lauren Eggert had one hit for Providence.

Hebron 2, Prince Avenue 1

DACULA - Victoria Sink struck out 10 batters, gave up three hits and no earned runs as Hebron took a 2-1 victory over Prince Avenue on Thursday.

Amanda Fischels went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Annie Ranus went 2-for-2 with a run and a walk. Mindy Montgomery was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jorie Weirather had three sac bunts for Hebron (16-12).


GAC beats Hardaway

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian beat Hardaway 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 on Senior Night on Thursday.

Amanda Komisarow totaled 22 kills and 2.5 blocks, and Megan Rosburg added 10 kills. Catherine Chason had four aces and 11 digs and Elizabeth McMurray contributed 12 digs. Brynn Massey had 34 assists for GAC (14-11).

Brookwood goes 2-for-2

SUWANEE - Brookwood beat North Hall 25-20, 25-19 and Collins Hill 25-18, 23-25, 25-15.

Brandi Byers had 16 kills and 5.5 blocks and Abby Case had 43 assists and three kills. Melanie Thompson added eight kills, 15 digs and five aces, while Kelsey Gratton had 11 kills, four blocks and one ace for the Broncos.

Wesleyan wins two

COLLEGE PARK - Weslyan beat Woodward 24-26, 31-29, 25-19 and beat Columbus 25-22, 19-25, 25-18 on Thursday.

Anne Marie Armstrong finished the night with 44 kills, 24 digs and six blocks and Grace Leigh Baughn contributed nine kills and 18 digs.

Anna Keappler had 11 kills and 10 digs, while Maggie Smith had nine kills, 67 assists and 17 digs. Brittany Price added 13 digs for Wesleyan (39-7).

Grayson splits

SUWANEE - Grayson fell to North Gwinnett 22-25, 19-25 and beat Chamblee 9-25, 25-18, 25-16 on Thursday.

Manyi Ati totaled 17 kills and Emily McCloy added 10 kills. Ansley Cash had 23 assists for Grayson (15-15).

Norcross splits

FAIRBURN - Norcross fell to Landmark Christian 22-25, 30-28, 21-25 and beat Whitewater 25-23, 16-25, 25-21 on Thursday.

Rachel Monteagudo had 53 assists and 13 digs and Tiffany Clarke had 30 kills, three blocks and seven aces. Briana Jordan contributed 19 kills and 12 digs and Bruna Freitas had 26 digs for Norcross (23-9).

Hebron splits

FAIRBURN - Hebron beat Our Lady of Mercy 25-22, 16-25, 25-16 and fell to Newnan 19-25, 21-25, 25-19 on Thursday.

Elise Murray had 17 kills, four aces and eight blocks and Courtney Bishop had 14 kills and four aces.

Sarah Hedrick contributed six kills and three aces and Jenny Conner totaled 18 assists for Hebron.
