Man indicted in shooting

LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett grand jury this week indicted a Dacula man on charges he was the gunman in a July double-shooting in which one man died.

The 12-count indictment charges Devin Anthony Grell, 21, with killing Donnie Edouard, 20, by shooting him in the head on July 11. The document also charges Grell with injuring a second victim, Brianna Morgan, by shooting her in the head and hip.

The shooting happened at Edouard's Lawrenceville home on Alcovy Park Drive, while the deceased victim's infant daughter was nearby, friends said at the time. Grell and Edouard had been good friends since their days together at Dacula High School, acquaintances said. Neither friends nor police have shed light on a possible motive.

Grell faces counts of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges, along with a new count of burglary. The bill says Grell entered the victim's home without permission intending to assault him.

Grell remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond. His arraignment, wherein he could enter a plea, is expected within a month.

Prior to his arrest a day after the killing, Grell had been free of prison for only five months. He served four years of a six-year sentence for stabbing a fellow Dacula student in the abdomen at school in August 2003.

Attorneys told a Superior Court Judge upon Grell's sentencing that the teen had anger management issues that needed to be addressed.

Edouard had dropped out of Dacula High School to take a position as a mover at Philips Arena in Atlanta to support his young daughter. At the time of his murder, he was attending summer school at Faith Academy in Buford, scheduled to graduate in December.
