LAWRENCEVILLE - A head-on crash Friday morning has left one person dead and another in critical condition.
At about 10:12 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of an overturned vehicle with entrapment at Oakland Road near Oakland Ridge Drive.
When crews arrived, they found an SUV and a second vehicle had crashed into each other. The driver of the SUV, a 16-year-old, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with minor injuries, reports said, while the driver and a passenger in the second vehicle had to be removed by firefighters. The passenger was pronounced dead and the driver remains in critical condition at GMC. It is unclear what kind of vehicle they were traveling in.
Three ambulances responded.
Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said he is unable to provide the identification, updated condition or specific injury information about the victims because of federal patient privacy laws.
Gwinnett Police spokesperson Cpl. David Schiralli said no names are being released at this time but more information will be made available after a preliminary report is completed.
Schiralli said the cause of the accident is still under investigation but that the juvenile driver appears to be at fault.
