Drivers fuel toy donations
The NASA Southeast Championship at RoadAtlanta will feature top racing and also will include several opportunities to donate toys for local charities. The races are Dec. 5-7 at the Braselton track.
Santa's Toy Run allows any spectator who donates an unwrapped toy or gift certificate with a value of $10 or more to get an all-access pass to the sports car racing event.
Local driver Ron Rigdon also is among the drivers who are accepting donations based on the number of laps he completes in the Dec. 5 eight-hour endurance race. All proceeds will go to The Speedway Children's Charities in metro Atlanta. For more information on Rigdon's fundraiser, go to www.circleheartracing.com or e-mail to circleheart
Walker back with Texans
HOUSTON - The Houston Texans signed Buford grad Darius Walker to their practice squad on Tuesday after being released by the team last month.
Walker was signed to add depth to the running back position after Ahman Green was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Starting running back Steve Slaton has a chest bruise and backup Ryan Moats is nursing an injured ankle.
After going undrafted, the former Notre Dame standout signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans. He played in four games, starting two, with the Texans in 2007. He rushed 58 times for 264 yards and a touchdown and also caught 13 passes for 81 yards.
He was released by the Texans in late August, but was signed to the practice squad and then promoted to the active roster. Houston waived the 5-foot-11, 205-pounder on Oct. 25.
Walker was signed by St. Louis on Nov. 4, but was released a week later.
