10-month-old girl killed in house fire
DUBLIN - Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine's office says a 10-month-old girl was killed and her two young brothers hospitalized with burns after fire destroyed an apartment in Dublin.
The commissioner's office said the children's mother, 21-year-old Shambria Fields, was arrested and charged with child abandonment and voluntary manslaughter. Authorities said they did not know the dead girl's name.
The commissioner said she left the children alone in the apartment, The two boys, 2-year-old Diontae Stuckey and 4-year-old Deltavious Stuckey, were taken to a hospital in Dublin, then transferred to a burn unit in Augusta.
85-year-old man dies in house fire
COVINGTON - Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine's office says an 85-year-old man has been killed in a house fire in Covington.
The office identified the victim as Aubry Sego Whelchel of 1193 College Ave.
Authorities said the 9:14 a.m. fire on Saturday began in the at the chimney. They said there were no smoke alarms in the house.
Search on for owner of boat found empty
BRUNSWICK - Crews are back on the Altamaha River searching for a man whose empty boat was found circling in the water.
Captain Jay Wiggins of the Glynn County Emergency Management Agency said the disappearance on Friday was being treated as a boating accident.
Wiggins declined to identify the man.
