Mr. Charles D. Gravitt, age 80, of Atlanta, GA and formerly of Buford, GA passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWitt T. and Nevie Floyd Gravitt. He is survived by his: wife of 61 years, Jewell Marshall Gravitt, Atlanta, GA; daughter, Faith Gravitt Russell, Buford, GA; granddaughters, Mary Blackmon, Krystle Blackmon, Katie Russell, all of Buford, GA; great granddaughters, Mary Elise Flanagan and Breonna Haney; sister, Carolyn Gravitt, Buford, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerome and Pat Marshall, Buford, GA. Mr. Gravitt was born January 28, 1928 in Forsyth County, GA. He attended Buford High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Clairmont Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA. He retired from General Motor Assembly Plant in Doraville, GA and was a member of the U.A.W. Local Union 10. After his retirement, he volunteered at Montclair Elementary School as an assistant to the teacher for over eleven years. He was a member of the Tucker Shrine Club and took part in many parades as a Clown. He was also a member of the North DeKalb Masonic Lodge No. 714, the Yaarab Shrine Temple and the Chapter Council. He was an avid coin collector. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Buford, GA with military honors. Members of the North DeKalb Masonic Lodge No. 714 will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Arrangements by: Junior E.
