LAWRENCEVILLE - For the second time, Gwinnett commissioners will consider funding the county economic development and quality of life initiative Partnership Gwinnett.

A $500,000 participation agreement is on

the board's Tuesday agenda.

"Our economic development department has been successful working with the Chamber to the tune of five new companies to supply 2,315 jobs," Chairman Charles Bannister said, adding that the companies have also committed to a $5 million capital investment. "I think it's a good trade. ... The jobs are that important to the community and our economic future as well."

The Chamber of Commerce-led program seeks to retain and expand existing Gwinnett businesses and develop new business in five key market segments: health care, distribution, corporate and regional offices, information technology and advanced communications. The program's goal is to attract 65,000 jobs to the county.

Commissioners agreed to the first $500,000 agreement last year, with renewal options for five additional years if the venture achieved certain goals.
