SUWANEE - The Gwinnett County Board of Education is expected on Thursday to adopt its legislative priorities for the upcoming year.
Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks presented the board with a draft of the priorities, which include requests in state funding improvements and the board's positions on matters such as local control of public education, school safety and security, contracts for classified employees and vouchers and tuition tax credits.
The program, once adopted by the school board, will be presented to state legislators before the upcoming session of the General Assembly.
The board's monthly business meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Instructional Support Center in Suwanee. Board members will also meet for a 3 p.m. work session.
Those who wish to address the board may sign up Thursday evening to speak during the open session, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
