Grayson 40,
Central Gwinnett 7

LAWRENCEVILLE - Grayson wasted no time jumping out front Friday night on its way to the first perfect regular season in school history.

Kori Gaines took the opening kickoff 99 yards and the Rams never looked back in a 40-7 victory over Central Gwinnett. Grayson's defense shut down the high-powered offense of Central Gwinnett (3-7, 3-5 Region 8-AAAAA), which gained only 46 total yards.

The Rams host Collins Hill next week in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs.

"The defense played good. Special teams played good," Grayson head coach Mickey Conn said. "When you play in these types of conditions you have to step up on special teams and you have to step up on defense and that's what we did tonight."

Following the kickoff return, the Rams forced a punt and took over on their own 30 yard line. On fourth-and-eight Grayson (10-0, 8-0 Region 8-AAAAA) was in punt formation and Central jumped offsides. After the penalty the Rams decided to go for it and the Black Knights jumped again resulting in a first down. Three plays later Terry Williams scored the first of his two first-half touchdowns from two yards out. After the missed PAT the score was 13-0 with 5:48 to play in the first quarter.

Williams scored his second TD from one yard out two possessions later and Harrell Gunn followed that with a 13-yard run with 6:54 left in the first half to give the Rams a 26-0 lead.

The first play Central ran following the Gunn score was a pass by Jordan Adams from the 18 that was intercepted and returned 20 yards for a TD by Will Jessup. Austin Clarke's kick made the halftime score 33-0.

The Rams' second score was set up by James Earl Jones on a 57-yard run down to the Central 2. It was one of only four runs on the night for Jones, who ended the game with 71 yards. Ean Pemberton added 69 yards on 17 carries as Grayson cruised into the matchup with Collins Hill.

"We come into every game like it's our first game." said Grayson quarterback Tyler Horne. "They are a good team. It should be a good game but hopefully we can come out 1-0 again."
