ESTERO, Fla. - Brandon Kaleniecki notched his third goal of the season on the power play midway through the second period, but it was not enough for the Gwinnett Gladiators in a 3-1 road loss to Florida on Friday.
The Gladiators (2-3-2) dropped their second straight game to the Everblades and play again tonight in Estero, Fla. Florida broke the scoreless tie 4:44 into the second period when Yannick Tifu, parked in the slot, was able to redirect a centering feed through the legs of Gwinnett netminder Kevin Nastiuk. Danick Bouchard pushed the Florida lead to 2-0 midway through the second period, before Kaleniecki cracked Anton Khudobin at 13:13. Playing on the back side of a power play, Kaleniecki was able to corral a rebound and flick the puck past Khudobin. Jordan Fox and Bryan Esner collected the assists on the goal for Gwinnett, which finished 1-for-8 on the power play. The Everblades regained the two-goal lead a little over a two minutes later. Mathieu Roy muscled down the left wing, slid by a Gladiators defenseman and jammed the puck past Nastiuk for the marker. Nastiuk, returning to the arena where he played a part of two seasons, finished with 26 saves in the loss.More like this story
