LAWRENCEVILLE - Jud Smith will be the first new sheriff of Barrow County in 20 years, according to unofficial election results, replacing Joel Robinson, who announced in December he would step down.

Results showed Smith with 75.57 percent of votes compared to Democrat James Bonnemer's 24.23 percent, with 17 of 18 precincts reporting as of 1 a.m. today.

Incumbent June Davis led challenger Johnny Smith with 73.29 of votes for chief magistrate. Smith drew 26.65 percent.

Republican Steve Worley looks to unseat Democratic incumbent Bill Healan for the Barrow County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat. Worley drew 56.84 of votes, compared to Healan's 43.12 percent.

Republican incumbent Ralph T. Hudgens will hold his state Senate seat for District 47, winning 70.13 percent of votes to challenger Tim Riley's 29.81 percent.
