More than half of Gwinnett County's public schools have earned a Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful Environmental Achievement Award.

The award recognizes schools for documenting their planning and implementation of environmental programs, practices and education efforts in the areas of waste reduction, education and stewardship, water conservation and watershed protection, air quality, energy conservation, beautification and green space preservation, and community outreach.

A total of 56 schools were recognized for their commitment to thinking, acting and achieving green in their learning communities during the 2007-08 school year.

The elementary school honorees are Annistown, Arcado, Beaver Ridge, Bethesda, Britt, Camp Creek, Cedar Hill, Chattahoochee, Chesney, Cooper, Craig, Dacula, Duncan Creek, Dyer, Fort Daniel, Freeman's Mill, Grayson, Gwin Oaks, Harris, Head, Ivy Creek, Knight, Level Creek, Lovin, Magill, Mason, McKendree, Minor, Parsons, Patrick, Peachtree, Pharr, Riverside, Rockbridge, Rock Springs, Simonton, Simpson, Sugar Hill, Sycamore, Taylor and Winn Holt.

The middle school honorees are Crews, Duluth, Five Forks, Lanier, Pinckneyville, Richards, Shiloh and Sweetwater.

The high school honorees are Brookwood, Collins Hill, Maxwell, Mill Creek, Norcross and Peachtree Ridge.

Monarch School also received an award.
