Roy Landress passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, at his home in White Plains, Ga. with his family at his bedside. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Nelline Landress, son Jeff Landress and wife Kathy of Stone Mountain, son Steve Landress of White Plains, daughter Susan Dutton and husband Tom of Bishop, and daughter Connie Williams of Loganville. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Melissa and David Wood, Buck Dutton, J.R. and Monica Landress, Grant Dutton, Ben Landress, Lacey Dutton, Jessica and Jacque Williams, and great-grandson Wyatt Wood. He is survived by his sister Shirley Pickens and husband James, brother-in-law Lewis Boyles and wife Sally, sister-in-law Kay Landress Hartman, his nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Joel Roy Landress, was born March 20, 1932 in Decatur, Ga. to William Dollar Landress, and Elsie Hix Landres. After graduating from Decatur High School, Roy enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country for ten years and was a veteran of the Korean War. Roy returned to Decatur after his service in Korea. It was in Decatur that he met the lovely Nelline Boyles, a former beauty queen from Crescent City, Fl. They soon married and raised four children. After completing his military service, as a staff sergeant, Roy began a career in the men's clothing business. He owned and operated shops in Decatur, Atlanta, and Sandy Springs. In 1972 he embarked on a career as a homebuilder which spanned 34 years. He built numerous homes in Gwinnett County and surrounding areas. He also spent many years on Ivy Mountain, in Hiawassee, Ga. where he continued his homebuilding career. The last home he built, finished just weeks prior to his death, was for his beloved wife. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at Tom M. Wages Funeral Home in Snellville, Ga at 11:00 am on Tuesday, with Rev. Gordon Pittard and Dr. Jim Stallings presiding.
