University of Georgia relocates its Gwinnett campus

LAWRENCEVILLE - The University of Georgia's Gwinnett campus has moved to a new location in Lawrenceville.

The campus is now based in 60,000 square feet of the Intellicenter building at 2530 Sever Road, near Interstate 85 at the Old Peachtree Road exit. Previously, UGA occupied space on Georgia Gwinnett College's campus.

"This move gives us more space to accommodate our growing academic and continuing education programs in Gwinnett," Bob Boehmer, who oversees UGA's extended campuses in Gwinnett, Griffin and Tifton, said in a news release. "The building is very accessible and provides flexible space for offices and classrooms of various sizes."

Since the mid-1980s, UGA has offered graduate degree programs in Gwinnett County, but the number and variety of programs has increased in recent years, according to a news release.

UGA's College of Education offers both master's and specialist degrees. The school recently added a master's degree in special education and a doctoral program in counseling and student personnel services.

The College of Pharmacy offers a certificate and a master's degree program in regulatory affairs.

Programs are also offered by the Terry College of Business, School of Public and International Affairs, School of Social Work and College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

"This past spring, we had more than 700 students enrolled in our graduate degree programs in Gwinnett," Jan Sandor, assistant vice president for academic affairs at the Gwinnett Campus, said in the news release. "We hope to continue to grow those numbers. We're also working with UGA's Center for Continuing Education to significantly expand noncredit professional development programs at the new location."

The Small Business Development Center office in Gwinnett and the Educational Technology Training Center operated by the College of Education in Gwinnett have also moved to the new facility.
