Projects on pace
Planned improvements and additions to Buford Academy and Buford High School are either completed or on schedule.
The new Buford Academy building is completely bricked and the playground area has been graded and will be hydro-seeded soon. New furniture and technological equipment are on order and will be in place for the 2008-09 school year.
The Buford High School weight room renovation is complete. The concrete pad for the auxiliary gym has been poured and steel has been erected. New classroom construction is under way, and construction has begun on the stadium addition.
The new central office building and multi-purpose facility are in the early stages. Buford voters approved a $10 million bond in February for the multi-purpose facility; the projected cost for the building is about $20 million. It will seat 5,000 people and can be used to host sports events, science fairs or even theatrical productions. Construction will take about two years.
Board members gave school Superintendent Geye Hamby the go-ahead to advertise a proposed 2008-09 school year budget that reflects about a 10 percent increase over this year's budget, roughly $2.8 million.
