LAWRENCEVILLE - Morgan Kaya Prime was crowned Miss Debutante 2008 of the 5th Biennial Debutante Cotillion and Scholarship Ball.
The event was put on by The Upsilon Alpha Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and its nonprofit affiliate, The Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation.
The ball was the culminating activity of six months of enriching activities including mentoring, self-esteem building workshops, self-empowering workshops, numerous social outings, serving as "Page for a Day" at the Georgia State Capitol and a Mother/Daughter Luncheon.
Chapter members also named Courtney Alexis Mason as the first runner-up and Atia Scott as the second runner-up. In addition to crowning Miss Debutante and her court, Mi'Lisa Patton was named Ms. Congeniality Jr. Escort Jordan Patrick was named Mr. Congeniality, and Prime was presented with the academic award - she holds a 4.1 grade-point average at Holy Spirit Preparatory School.
Proceeds from the pageant will benefit the Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarship Fund. Upsilon Alpha Omega Graduate Chapter awards scholarships to college-bound female students each year. This year the chapter will also award an additional Beauty P. Baldwin scholarship to a male student in their efforts to embrace and educate males in Gwinnett County.
