Teen says gang member hit him with bat
SNELLVILLE - A Snellville teen told police a member of the 24th Street Gang nicknamed "Joker" whacked him with a baseball bat recently.
The 19-year-old victim said he and the suspect got in a physical altercation at his Menloe Way home, throwing punches at each other. The suspect, whom he identified only as Raul, then pulled a baseball bat from his vehicle and struck him in the left arm, according to a police report.
The suspect entered a two-door Honda Civic with several other gang members and fled the area, the report said. The victim was treated by medical personnel at the scene and released.
Police: Man ducks bill for leather seats
NORCROSS - The owner of a Norcross car-detailing business told police a guy named Richie ripped him off.
The owner runs a trim shop on Beaver Ruin Road. He told police the suspect hired him to spiff up his ride with $2,400 worth of leather upholstery. The suspect picked up his car Tuesday and bolted without paying, according to a police report.
The business owner requested that police talk to the thief over the phone.
Car fire smokes Norcross home
NORCROSS - Firefighters kept a car fire in Norcross contained to a garage where the vehicle was parked Thursday, an official said.
Occupants of the Bennington Drive home reported the car was burning in their garage at 5:19 p.m. They had just arrived home and parked the car when they noticed smoke in the two-story house, Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.
The blaze caused heavy damage to the car and sent smoke throughout the rest of the house, but no structural damage was reported, Rutledge said.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Rutledge said no injuries were reported.
Vacant house damaged by fire in Barrow County
WINDER - A vacant house in the 400 block of Rockwell Church Road was heavily damaged by fire about 2 a.m. Friday. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Although Barrow County has had several fires lately, there doesn't appear to be an arsonist at work, said Lt. Scott Dakin, spokesman for the Barrow County Fire Department.
