LAWRENCEVILLE - Calling a proposed apartment complex on Satellite Boulevard "ahead of its time," planning commissioners Tuesday suggested that the high-end option was not yet right for the area.
Planning Commissioner Paula Hastings said she had given a lot of thought to the proposal, which would have put 378 luxury apartments on nearly 30 acres on the road.
She said the proposal had a lot of merit, but was not yet right.
"It's ahead of its time, where it is," Hastings said, recommending the proposal be denied without prejudice.
Andy Stancil, an attorney representing Davis Development, said the development would have a resort-style pool, game room and common room. The apartments would have direct-access garages, he said, and plenty of green space.
"It would add value to the community," he said.
The county commission will make the final decision on the project, proposed for the 900-1200 block of Satellite Boulevard, on May 20.
Planning commissioners also suggested that a mixed-use overlay proposal tabled from the week before be approved, but with the inclusion of a lap pool and gym. The Thompson Mills Village project, a proposed expansion of the over-55 Village at Deaton Creek community near Braselton, would have 216 townhomes, 333 condominiums, nearly 115,000 square feet of office space and about 140,000 square feet of retail space.
