LILBURN - The Lilburn City Council on Monday night unveiled its $6.5 million proposed annual budget and capital improvement plan for fiscal year 2008-09, which calls for a six percent increase over last year.
Mayor Diana Preston said the new budget will show an increase of $374,000, and will call for a tax millage hike, but she said she didn't know how much it would be raised. Public comments will be taken at budget meetings June 2 before the council votes on it. Preston listed these factors which caused the budget to jump: the hiring of two full-time police officers, the director of planning and economic development, a finance manager and a permit specialist/clerk; increased fuel costs; and two percent cost-of-living pay raises for city employees. In other business, the council: Agreed to pay Ruppert Nurseries $12,852 for electrical and concrete work for the Lilburn Downtown Streetscaping Project. Approved a plan for the redesign of wayfinding signage from Sky Design for the Main Street Streetscape Project and Town Center Wayfinding Plan. Adopted a proposal to accept Community Development Block Grant funding for sidewalk and safety lighting on Holly Ridge. Approved an update to the Gwinnett County and participating cities Comprehensive Sold Waste Plan for the Lawrenceville Highway (U.S. 29) Corridor Overlay District.More like this story
